Meet The Math Teachers

Ashish Jalwan is an avid consumer of math, he loves to learn about different fields of mathematics. He enjoys seeing the applications of mathematics in fields such as reinforcement learning and computational psychiatry, and loves teaching. Ashish's mission as a teacher is to remove as many barriers to undestanding as possible. He knows the importance of compassionately listening to students' questions, having patience with students who have trouble learning new concepts, and encouraging students to remain steadfast in the face of frustration and confusion. His goal is to teach math in a way that fosters curiosity and builds students up, and his favorite part of teaching is seeing the smile on a student’s face when they are able to solve a question they previously thought they weren’t “smart enough” to solve.

Natasha Kulviwat is a rising high school junior at Jericho High School. In elementary school, she began her journey in competitive math by passing the entrance exam to join her school’s Math Olympiad team simply because the teacher distributed free munchkins during Olympiad sessions. Ever since, she’s been studying math via workbooks gifted by her parents on holidays 🥲and legal internet sources (yes, legal…). Aside from the world of competition math, Natasha integrates her passion of mathematics with cognitive neuroscience in her research pursuits. You may often find Natasha playing chess, arguing with people that viola is an adequate instrument, prepping last-minute for SciOly tournaments, and praying to the gods of RStudio to fix the syntax errors in her code when attempting to bring her research project to fruition.

Liran found his passion for mathematics through the pandemic. Talented, Liran quickly excelled in mathematics and qualifier for AIME in his 8th grade. Since then, he has continued to improve and found many applications of math in other fields, such as competitive programming. Liran is new to teaching math, but he's passionate and loves working to help students understand difficult concepts.

Matthew is fascinated with how math can be applied to many fields, inspiring him to delve deeper into the subject. Now as a junior at Jericho High School, Matthew enjoys teaching math to others, wishing to share this passion to others and hopefully changing people’s perspectives on this subject. With his own experiences, Matthew has gained a good understanding of the many challenges and obstacles that students will face, encouraging those who have trouble with math to persevere and overcome the obstacle. He hopes to teach others the joy of perserving through mathematics.

Ruoxi is a high school senior in New York whose lifelong dream is to escape to Mars after retirement. At a young age, she was thrust into the world of competitive mathematics and has been flailing in a sea of numbers ever since. Other activities she enjoys include debate, Science Olympiad, and swimming. Usually, you can find her lamenting over a hard geometry question, playing Minecraft with her sisters, preparing the last minute for a debate, or attempting to read an astronomy book

Patrick is a senior attending school in New York. He is an enthusiastic weiqi player with a childhood dream to become a professional at the game. Having an avid love for nature, he enjoys watching nature documentaries in his free time and reading through interesting articles on the future of our planet. Also a soccer player, Patrick has been playing for 6 years and enjoys running as a favorite pastime. Being a competitive Mathlete. he enjoys tackling difficult problems, and suffers from major programmer’s block when doing robotics.
